Patricia “Romy” Reyes-Frey, 64, of Overland Park, KS. passed from our world on Sunday May 15th at her home at about 2:30 PM.
Patricia was born on July 10, 1957, to Mike and Frances (Falcon) Reyes. She graduated from Wichita East and started her salon career in 1975.
Patricia went by her nickname, Romy from childhood and was a gym rat, avid runner and bicyclist, racquetball player and in recent years hot yoga participant.
She moved to Overland Park in 1985 and started her first Salon in Leawood, Ks. In 1991. She has owned and operated three salons in Leawood since 1991. She not only enjoyed her client relationships but over the years has become long standing friends with many. Romy went out of her way to take care of clients, squeezing them in when they had a special event and taking care of them at their homes or in the hospital when required, and assisted with hairpiece selections when clients were undergoing cancer treatments.
At home, Romy was an avid gardener and animal activist, traveling with Jon to Bea Martin Peck Shelter to groom great Pyrs for adoption. She and Jon adopted four Great Pyr rescue dogs and re-socialized them after traumatic starts to their lives.
During her very serious cancer treatments, she continued to provide client services, walk the dog, run her errands and attend advanced Yoga.
We have been together since 1986. She embraced the four grandchildren as if they were her own. X-MAS and birthdays were properly observed with gifts…not mine, but hers. She was as much a friend of my son, Chris, as she was his mother. She has babied our rescue pets as if they were our children.
She was magnificently stubborn and would for sure do things “her way”, but she did it in a way you just had to love. She managed to put up with me for all these years…and me her. Not often we get to thank them for all they do…so Thank You. She will be remembered dearly by all those she touched. She was a true friend to those who allowed her to be.
She is survived by her husband; Jon Frey, Overland Park, KS, her parents; Mike and Frances Reyes, Wichita, KS, Stepson; Christopher Frey (Ashley), Dallas, TX, and brothers; Roman, Michael, and Rueben all of Wichita, KS.
A Memorial service will be held on May 24th at 11am at Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Chapel, 13730 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Rd, Kansas City, MO 64137.
I am so saddened to hear of Patti’s passing. Her and I were good friends in jr high at Hamilton in Wichita and then at East High. . I saw her a few times in our 20’s after I had moved away and then lost track of her once she moved as well. Our last visit was when she came to see me in Tulsa in the 1980’s. I will always remember her sunny smile and her practicing her cheers as we walked home from school. She also used to sing Mercedez Benz by Janis Joplin as we would walk together. Such fond memories of her . Even though I haven’t seen her in years I feel like a small piece of my childhood is gone now. She was much too young to go and I pray she didn’t suffer with the cancer. Sending my condolences to her husband, all of her family and friends. To her brothers, Roman, Mike and Reuben, its been years since I’ve seen you all but am so sorry you lost your sister .All of you are in my thoughts.
Sincerely
Marla Booher Caire

I loved Romy. I was her client and friend. She did the hair styles for all the bridesmaids the bride and me for the wedding. When I celebrated 70 years she did my hair and came to the party and sat right beside me. During this sickness we both said how important we were to each other. I have lost a dear friend confidante and supporter. My hair will never be the same
Romy was a wonderful person she will be missed. God bless her

I’m so sorry to hear of this loss. I didn’t know Romy well, we went to East High but I do remember her as a very cheery and nice person. She did hair at Jeans Unlimited too as I recall. May the Lord Jesus Christ be with her family during this time.
