Robert Morissette, 75, of Olathe, Kansas passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 25th, 2016 surrounded by his family. He had experienced a traumatic brain injury as the result of a fall.
Robert was born on November 5th, 1940 in Quebec City. He attended Catholic schools and continued his business education at Bart College. After graduation, he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway for eleven years. An opportunity arose with B. F. Goodrich – Canada in Quebec City and subsequent moves occurred for positions in Montreal, Quebec; Toronto, Ontario and Akron, Ohio followed.
Janet and Robert met in 1979 in Akron as their apartment complex office manager advised “you would make a cute couple” and so they were married in January 1980. Rachelle was born in 1982 and Robert continued to travel for 11 years covering the Middle East and Africa as the International Sales Mgr for B.F Goodrich. In 1990, Robert moved to a new opportunity with Komatsu Dresser in Peoria, IL and in 1994 to the Quad Cities in Illinois where he worked for Grisham Industries until retirement.
After retiring, Robert always kept busy with volunteer responsibilities or a part-time job as he loved being around people and was always willing to lend a hand with whatever needed to be done. Most recently he enjoyed volunteering to coordinate bus food for the local Quad City Mallards hockey team in Moline, IL.
Robert excelled at skiing and led the Ski Patrol in Quebec at Mt. Ste-Anne, along with his life-long friend, Yvon Provencher. He was also a Junior Snooker champion in Quebec. He loved hockey, travel, cooking and riding his motorcycle. Another key element in Robert’s life was his life-long passion for the game of golf. In Quebec, he was the president of the Club de Golf at Stoneham. He was very proud of his two hole-in-ones. During a recent vacation to Scotland, UK he visited St. Andrews and took a lesson with the pro to add 15 yards to his drive and improve “backspin on his chip shot.” The pro advised he would achieve his goals.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Morissette and Lucienne Allaire Morissette of Quebec City, Quebec Province, Canada. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janet Watts Morissette of Olathe KS, daughter Elyssa Rachelle Morissette and son-in-law Joshua Williams of Nashville, TN.
A memorial service will be held on June 13th at the Hennessy Bagnoli Moore Funeral Home. 936 N Main St. Akron Oh. 44223. 330-376-4251. There will be a visitation from 5-7 pm and the service will follow at 7pm.
In keeping with Robert’s wishes there will be a visitation in the Quad cities and a private memorial service in Akron, Ohio at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Robert’s favorite charity: Feeding America http://www.feedingamerica.org/
