Sharon L Johnson, 86, of Overland Park, KS was born on February 7, 1938 in Scottsbluff, NE and passed away on May 10, 2024 at her home.  She was the fifth of six children born to Thomas Johnathon Moore and Hetty M. Reed Moore. 

Sharon was preceded in death by her loving husband, Irving Johnson, her parents, and her sisters and brother. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Bodenhamer and her husband, Jay; her son Kris Johnson and his wife, Glenda; her six grandchildren Joshua Bodenhamer, Jonathan Bodenhamer, Kara Bodenhamer, Philip Johnson and wife Leah, Andrew Johnson and wife Ashley, Jeffrey Johnson and wife Ashley, and great grandchildren Ava Johnson, Nora Johnson, Josiah Johnson, Everlee Johnson, Clayton Johnson, and Jenna Bodenhamer.

Sharon’s family moved to Merna, Nebraska after her father passed away in February 1941. She began school in Merna at age 4. The family then moved to Broken Bow, Nebraska where she grew up and attended Custer School, Broken Bow Junior High School and Broken Bow Senior High School where she graduated in 1955.

After Sharon and Irv married they moved to Hastings, NE where Irv attended college. While there Sharon worked for the Credit Bureau and as a dental assistant. After Irv graduated from college, the family moved to Kansas City, MO. She began working as a dental assistant for a pediatric dental practice on the Country Club Plaza. When her first grandchildren were born, she quit dental assisting to watch and love her four older grandchildren. When they began school, she went to work as a receptionist for the Hickman Mills School District at the Administration Center and retired in the early 2000s.

Irv and Sharon enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Some of their traveling highlights were an Alaskan Cruise and attending the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena with longtime friends from their church. They also enjoyed many road trips throughout the country. Sharon could not pass up shopping at many of the craft shops they ran into on their travels.

Sharon’s children and grandchildren remember that she faithfully attended their school activities, band and choir concerts, and sporting activities. Being a mom, grandma, and great grandma was such a joy for Sharon.

The Johnsons lived in South Kansas City for many years, where they were long-time members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Sharon taught Sunday School, was a youth group sponsor, a member of the Chancel Choir, and the United Methodist Women. She was a Girl Scout leader, room mother, and a member of the Dobbs PTA.

After moving to Overland Park, Irv and Sharon became founding members of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. There Sharon sang in the Chancel Choir, participated in Christmas at Resurrection many times, belonged to the same study group for many years, and attended Morning Star Adult Education Class.

Sharon lived in independent senior living during the past two years where she made many lovely friends. 

Sharon’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, May 30 at 1:00 pm in the Wesley Chapel at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection at 13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, KS 66224. It will be followed by a short reception.
