Sheila Stewart, 79, of Overland Park, KS, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 19, 2018. Sheila is survived by her daughter Shannon Gregory (Gary), son Michael Stewart (Denise), granddaughters Jordan and Alyssa Gregory, grand-dog Taylor Gregory, and sister-in-law Carla Benton and family. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Kay Kent Stewart, her brother-in-law, Donald Benton, her mother Fern Bray and father Floyd Bray, and her mother-in-law Leona Stewart and father-in-law Carl Stewart. Sheila was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all.
Sheila grew up in Chanute, KS where she made lifelong friends and always had a home to go back to. She attended Washburn University where she was member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and also met her soon-to-be husband.
After raising a family, Sheila’s passion for helping others served her well as she worked as a para in the Shawnee Mission School District for many years. After retirement, she enjoyed getting to spend more time with her granddaughters as she helped watch them over the summers and after school. She loved to spend time with her family and friends whether that was exploring the sights in Kansas City, both new and old, exercising almost daily, taking an occasional road trip, or grabbing an iced tea and sweet treat for an afternoon pick-me-up.
Sheila cherished the strong relationships she made throughout her life from many groups of friends. She cared deeply for others and was always kind to everyone around her, whether they were strangers or great friends.
