Sheryl Kathleen “Kathy” West, 69, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on August 3, 2020 after a courageous fight against cancer.

Kathy was born to the late Richard and Mable Hatfield on November 4, 1950 and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1968. Less than one year later, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Danny Lee West, who preceded her in death in 2019. They went on to have six children together and Kathy was a stay-at-home mom, Sunday school teacher and AWANA leader.

Kathy is survived by her six children: Jeremy, of Virginia Beach, VA; Heather (Kevin) of Kansas City; Jeff (Chandra) of Kokomo, IN; Jason of Kansas City; Jon (Misha) of Liberty and Jim (Jennifer) of Kansas City. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, one great- grandchild and many others who considered her mom.  Kathy was also preceded in death by her sister, Pamela Stumpf and brother, Richard “Duke” Hatfield.

Everyone who knew Kathy loved her care free, wild-child personality and also her sense of humor. She loved to make people laugh! Kathy wasn’t afraid of anything. In fact, even after she was put on hospice, she talked about skydiving again and offered to go with her pastor. Kathy loved her friends and family with her whole heart and her door was always open to anyone. Oftentimes, her home was filled with all of her kids’ friends who felt like she was a mother to them, as well. Kathy’s love for her family was proven most recently by her surefire-will to live long enough to see her 15th grandchild born on July 11th, which she did, despite being told she likely wouldn’t live past March. Kathy touched many lives with her faith, determination, love and encouragement.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 10am at Solid Rock Bible Church, 2501 NE Parvin Road, Kansas City, MO 64116

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Exodus Cry, an organization in Kansas City committed to abolishing human trafficking.
