Bill went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 5, 2017. He was born September 30, 1926 to Joseph and Maude (Stevens) Wheeler in Sedelia, MO. His parents, two brothers and a sister proceed him in death. Bill’s wife and best friend of 42 years was Lavonne (Leonard) Wheeler, they were long time residents of Overland Park. Bill leaves behind Lavonne of the home, step-son, Charles Watts and his wife Sally of Overland Park; step-daughter, Connie Fleming and her husband, Brian (Chip) of Monument, CO; five grand-children, two great grand-children and three nieces.
Bill and Lavonne became active members of Colonial Presbyterian Church in 1996 where fellowship with friends and family became central to their life together.
Bill was a World War II Veteran and successful businessman. He used his veteran benefits to train as a barber. In 1968, Bill opened Trailwood Barber Shop at 95th and Nall in Overland Park where he was one of J. C. Nichols first tenants at that newly opened location. Bill was later joined by Lavonne in the business and the name changed to Trailwood Family Haircare. Clients over the years included players and management from the Chiefs and Royals. After 30 successful years at that location, Bill and Lavonne sold the business and retired in 1998.
Services for Bill will be held at 10am, October 28th at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Rd, KC, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to Colonial Presbyterian Church Foster Adopt Ministry.
